We never “tried” to tease Ian, we flat out did it. He would do the same for us.

Glad you are able to get the BBQ in. Best to spend time with people while you can.

Awesome Ian.
Glad to hear things are looking up.
What I want to know, is with that mass out of your neck, now don't take this wrong, just thought I'd ask because I thought it might have been propping your nogging up. Well are you listing to one side?:rofl:;)

I'm sure he has invented some new sleeping positions anyway.

everyone took off yesterday supposedly 'for just a bit'.
long about 2 hrs. after it was supposed to be lunchtime I got hungry and put the big pork shoulder roast in the smoker, then headed out back to snip off various green leaves to cook with it.
[I cut some kohlrabi, spinach, and brussel sprout leaves fresh, and got out some of the G-boy's chard from the freezer]
about an hour and a half later the wife and girl come home and there was a big rowel in the hose and the wife was shouting at the boy on the phone about something.
she come out into the garage where I was and asked about half pissed off if I had seen the roast, and I told her I put it in the smoker for dinner.
uhhh, oh,,, okay then.... so what are all these leaves in here, and what am I supposed to do with them?

her culinary skills pretty much start and stop at hamburger and potatoes.
anyway I told the G-boy if he ate his dinner he could go out back and get some strawberries for dessert.
he turned that into everyone was going out back for strawberries for dessert.
G-ma made the mistake of having him carry the bowl of berries in the house while we went over to look at something else for a minute so He, Six, and Jax got strawberries for dessert.

Oscar you have my ear if needed , I'm sure my boys can be available as well having both been . One was USAA 222 Air support the other is 12 th Cav . They change a little ....... sometimes more than others .
Empathy I suppose .

Thanx RB! Greatly Appreciated. Jake is an ABN Combat Medic with 2/508 PIR, 82nd ABN. He will be in the BN Aid Station (planned; 'course THAT could easily change based on situation). He was in the 173rd and aggravated that it was all training. Got to the 82nd and had to extend to deploy, but really wanted to do mission vs training stuff/practice what he trained for in real world. I am sure he will get his wish, and prob more!

Day 4 Knee rehab: Opiates edition
1f624.png

Yesterday, after PT, I decide to switch from OTC pain meds (Tyl and Ibu alternating) to the prescribed Oxycodone (since I didn't need to drive anywhere for 60 hours). I learned two things.

One:
Zero pain (which I achieved with the lowest dose) isn't the best thing for me to do rehab. Don't know when to stop, got increased bruising.

Two:
Oxycodone makes me feverish (and increased heart rate). Not a good thing when fever is a symptom of infection, which I need to be on the watch for. Also impossible to sleep well, especially in this sultry summer weather where I am running a AC and ceiling fan. BTW, the fever drops out at about hour 5 of the dose.

So after the 3rd dose of Oxy wore off at 3am this morning, I returned to the alternating OTC regiment, which had been working pretty good for me. Then I slept well from 3am to 8am.

Just to reiterate, I am limiting my online time, which is typically a sedentary thing, which is bad for my rehab.

3 dog day for the last couple. Gals are out picking blue berries today. Daughter & her SIL may stay longer - Houston in RED now and both can work from home - I got internet and SIL is in S.D. with scouts for the week. Did watch whats his name try to catch rays using 125# test leader. Changed from heavier and yes, did catch a ~200# fresh water one. Not my game! Pizza left over from last nite for tonite.

Any of you guys fry up fish roe? Man When I was a kid My Dad saved every unbroken egg sac , Bluegill, perch etc and When we got Shad from the Delaware River they were huge.
Used to be my favorite part of the weekly fish fry!
Then moving ahead about 30 years our Fish Commission warns us not to eat freshwater fish roe! And also only have one meal of fresh water fish each month!.....guess it is fish for sport instead of table anymore
In 1997, while vacationing in AK at my Cousin's village, my relatives taught me that if I take the roe out of the fish (meaning the roe is that fresh), then I eat it right then and there (raw), TASTY.
...they also taught me I should be releasing (immediately) any fish I suspect has roe in it.
of course there are exceptions to the rule ;)

My personal decision on that stuff was to flush it down the commode. Had a script for it when I broke my knee. By far the worst pain I've ever experienced and the stuff did help a great deal right up until the side effects were worse than the broken knee. Two weeks without pooping before I found out it was the opiates doing that. And yes, two weeks without going is easily worse than a broken knee.

I've never had an issue with codeine side effects whether it was cough syrup , Vicoproffin or stuff in between .

Couple of diet Pepsi's and I'm buzzed up about the same as 3 beers . Of course with all of the Irish , Scott , German blood I got the alcohol tolerance of a field mouse .

Rick, after untold decades the medical establishment has finally realized they need to prescribe stool softeners at the same time they prescribe opiate painkillers. Rats learn after only twice, most humans after once, and the medical establishment only after multiple deaths and lawsuits.

Well, there's a little medical mutiny going on currently at my house. My body said not another $*@&! day without my fish oil, period. So a gram of that was added with lunch, feeling better already. I've been staying under two grams of fat a day while trying to heal a wound and recover from five days NPO, there hasn't been a waking moment I haven't craved avocado, almonds, pecans, salad oil, tilapia......oh my. Not even craving bbq or cheeseburgers/fries, in fact after seeing for myself the nasty tryglyceride/cholesterol goop being pumped into my bloodstream from my lymphatic system after eating grease I'm gonna go easy on that stuff from now on.

Oh, and I'm still down ten pounds today, no matter how much sugar/carbs/fruit/veggies or fat-free dairy products I consume.

Sure would have been nice if they had told me, not a word from the docs. I figured it out myself by going online and looking it up, WebMD is your friend. 3 years ago when I had surgery down in Little Rock they also gave me a script for opiates. Quite vivid in my mind was two weeks without going and I never took a single one of that script. Doubt I could have forced myself to swallow it.

your fasting period has reset your metabolic intake and retention.
your body is in fat burn mode, try to maintain that.

weather buttholes are telling me it's 66 calm and clear right now.
I guess they didn't or couldn't see the 30 mph wind gusts, lightning, and sideways water floating around above the ground with their fancy instruments.

supposed to be down in the 30's tomorrow night and they are showing more of it up till about the second of July [with 55-F or so day time highs] then we get up to almost 50 at night about the 4th.
I been holding my hot Pepper plants in the green house and was shooting for about Tuesday for putting them outside.
yeeeah,, maybe 2 more Tuesdays?
most likely get to see some snow on the Mtn. tops and foot hills Monday morning hopefully not down here too.

they'd have to be using satellite images or something to see our weather here.

I really wish the weather service would just show us the iso bars, jet stream, water temps, and cloud formations.
then I could predict my own weather.
but I guess their degree would be about as useful as a political science doctorate at that point.

Fiver - NOAA has a wind website I used to go to, don't have the bookmark anymore. Was very accurate. This one is OK
