Monday, I placed an order (for C-red, 20 solid sticks for the Star) with Glenn at White label lubes...I'm not sure what he stocks? But he must have had that in stock, Because the package arrived today, that's quick.

Sittin on the corner of a bean field hoping to fill a muzzleloader tag. Iron sights and my eyes don’t get along great, but well enough for a hundred yard shot. 50 cal TC new Englander liaded with 777 powder and patched ball

Shoot, awhile ago I heard a snort about 30 yards off my southeast in the brush. Wind was out of the northeast. Must be circling in the timberland it smelled me or the thermacell. Just now I glanced up the rise to my left in the field and a doe was staring me down at 30 yards. All I could see was the top of her head and ears. She took off and there were three more behind her. Bet it was the same one I heard earlier coming to check out what was in her field.

Flowering crab apple trees make some tiny crab apples, like the size of a marble. I wouldn't use those. Some crab apples are about 2" in diameter. The tree i have is called Firecracker Crab apple. They are very red on the outside and partly red on the inside. They are quite tart, but still eatable raw, like a regular apple. I am quite sure if you ate 3 or 4 of them, you'd end up with a belly-ache. I like them sliced thin on a salad.
We have them growing wild in tangled bunches, all over, they are about as big as a ping pong ball. And the thrones on the trees will slice you up pretty good. I do not think those ones would be worth the effort, even if they were edible.

I'm sure they are extruded [twice] cores.
you'll have to find a home maker type bullet maker to find pre-swaged/extruded cast cores.

Well, got er done. Single doe came out about 15 minutes before dark. Took the shot at about 70 yards, quartering to me. Smoke covered me up and I never saw her after the shot. Luckily my son had come over for the weekend and I called him for some more lights and better eyes. We finally found a few drops of blood and got a decent idea of which way she went. Crossed 40 yards of beans and the smoke was so thick I never saw her. She made it about 20 yards into the thick timber but by that time the blood trail was getting heavy and was easier to follow. Full exit just about the diaphragm and every time we moved her blood was gushing out. Got her quartered and on ice in time for supper before bed

Ole270,
What state are you gun hunting deer in? I wasn't aware of a state with firearms deer this early.

Checked traps today and was on my way home, when the wife sent me a text of the location of an estate sale on my way. She really just wanted me to see if it was worth going, to save her a trip. Lots of old tools, and they wanted stuff gone. Misc. boxes of stuff for a dollar each. The ladies had several tables in the garage, and just happened to have some pewter. Pot was marked $5, and I offered $3, she accepted and said don't forget the cups that go with it (they were covered up with some drapes that had fallen on them). Bought a bucket of misc. rope for a dollar too. Seems I use alot of rope.B5680A0C-DCBD-48A5-8BAE-23893B659B02.jpeg

I spend too much time looking at want ads.
I'm not a machinist, and I don't wish to "play" one on the interwebs.
But, check this out, listed on the book of faces this morning,
Free (pick up in Hastings, MN)
South Bend Light 10K Metal Lathe Model B
"This old South Bend lathe needs a home. For real, it's free - just come and get it out of my garage. The belt drive was changed to a tractor transmission - I don't know why, but it runs. I have a post and the change gears. Please give this lathe a good home."

Rally, hunting in Kansas early Muzzleloader season. Anymore it starts the same time as archery and goes two weeks. Sure wish it was a couple weeks later to get away from the heavy pollen, tick and mosquito time.
